Tucked away in West Street, Dorking in Surrey, two to four restaurant has recently received a listing in the Michelin Guide 2013 and is well established in the area. Owners Jill Pickett and Rob Gathercole have also bought a Michelin Star level chef, Ian Atkinson (The Halkin, Margan Restaurant and Electrolux Young Chef finalist 2009) to join them for their winter season in the restaurant.
Last night we were privy to a private gourmet dinner (they run them every couple of months) in association with their wine supplier Enotria, who bought along Ruth Sutton from Marques de Riscal, Rioja Spain. Ruth explained the selected wine with each course in a personalised way to each table and also told us how she had lived there for 19 years but now lives in the UK. How much more passion can you get than from someone that has lived and grown up with the vineyard and their wines? That completely sold the wine for me and her knowledge and detail of each one shone through, and I won’t often order Spanish wines out of choice, however the wines selected perfectly complimented the food.
After that my i-phone died as per usual but am hoping for someone else to have a picture of the delicious desserts!
We then had the most delicious fine Black pepper crackers with picos blue & slow poached membrillo which just melted with the wine and the spiciness of the pepper really broke through the creaminess of the cheese. The dessert was quite large (I still ate every morsel) and consisted of an elegant Lavender cream with toasted almond crumb, tiny toffee apples & basil syrup, absolutely stunning!
They had then made tiny churros and served them with the coffee of your choice, all of this with the wine for just £55 per person. You can’t get any better value for the money, food, service – the whole experience gave a total wow factor and this little gem won’t be under wraps for long!
